Ein Leporello ist ein Heft in Form eines langen Papier- oder Kartonstreifens, das zieharmonikaartig gefaltet ist. Ein Leporello wird daher auch als Faltbuch bezeichnet.
Der Name Leporello ist aus der Mozart-Oper Don Giovanni entnommen. In dieser Oper tritt der Frauenheld Don Giovanni auf, der einen Diener namens Leporello hat. Er ist von seinem Herrn Don Giovanni beauftragt worden, eine Liste mit Bild und Namen aller Damen, die er verführt hat, anzulegen. Leporello heftet viele Blätter zusammen, und als sie immer länger wurden, faltete er sie. Aus dem gefalteten Heft ging der Name „Leporello“ hervor.
Das Leporello ist uns auch bekannt von Ansichtskarten, die streifenförmig aneinander gefügt sind.
A leporello is a kind of a long sheet of paper or cardboard which is folded like an accordion.
Such a folding book is named after Leporello who is Don Giovanni's servant in the Mozart opera Don Giovanni. Don Giovanni, a womanizer, wants to have a list with all the names of the ladies that he has seduced. So his servant Leporello was called to write down all the names of these ladies combined with a photo of each. When the list grew longer and longer Leporello fixed all the sheets of paper together and folded them. Hence it followed the name “leporello“.
Nowadays we know picture postcards which are folded together by way of stripes, also a kind of leporello.
